Air BNB is a great resource when you have no idea what your vacation will look like. For example, our family wanted to visit my brother in Portland, and we were looking for a trip that might include a bit of fishing. So we looked into getting a place based on location first. Somewhere we could walk to a fishing spot, and explore a surrounding area. We found a small home on the edge of Salmon River within Walking distance of a trail called BZ corner. We even found our own spot on a flat rock where you can set up and watch the kayakers all day as you fished, and stayed cool in the glacier temperature waters.
We took a tour with River Drifters, where we BARELY drifted, and got soaking wet in the rapids. Highly recommend, and we got lucky to get a knowledgeable and fun tour guide, Oscar.
The White Salmon river has different looks depending on the month, and this early season water was high, so there were some spots that we couldn’t traverse down, and had to exit the water and go back in after falls, but I am itching to go back at the end of summer where there are rumors you can spot salmon hopping out of the waters and possibly bears peaking though the trees to find dinner in the cold river, when the huckleberries are also in season.
So my weekly swim looked a bit different, and made me appreciate the “cold” pacific waters compared to Glacier waters coming from Mount Adams!
